About Haufcut Videos:
After graduating with an honours degree in Film and Theatre, I took an HND in Video Production, and started producing videos in the 1990s, while also performing with Mischief La-Bas, working as Assistant Director with Theatre Works and Square Go, and making music, (Dr. Bru & The Cydermen, Black Abbath, Scunner, Colonel Mustard & The Dijon 5, The Well Happy Band). I led workshops making videos, instruments, and music, with SENSE Scotland, Theatre Nemo and Depot Arts.
I know, from experience, what performers want, and, more importantly, what they can afford. Haufcut Videos has always been about providing a resource for my fellow performers. I would prefer to be working constantly, using the equipment and skills I have acquired, rather than waiting for bookings, and charging the high rates many companies ask. During Edinburgh Festival Fringe, I have been known to film four shows a day. This is how I can keep prices low. I enjoy what I do, and I strive to produce high quality videos that make both you, and me, look good.

I’ve produced videos for more than 600 clients, using regularly updated equipment and software. – I switched from VHS to digital equipment, then HD, and now 4K, before many other companies made the transitions. Many companies are still using DSLR cameras to film, or maybe one or two, big, heavy, expensive camcorders. Having worked with DSLR, I found them clunky and temperamental. Focus and zoom would either be automatic, slow and noisy, changing with lighting conditions, or manual, involving both hands, and the need to be very still when operating focus or zoom controls. Great for photography. Not good for video, even on a gimbal. 20 minute shot length restrictions, and poor battery life, put me off.
I choose mirrorless, bridge cameras, and GoPro action cameras instead. Their image quality is consistently superb. They keep everything in focus, even under stage lighting changes, and, because they are smaller, and lighter, I can offer discrete, multi-camera, filming set-ups, clipping cameras above stages, by drum kits, and places a DSLR set-up would be impossible. Using gimbal mounts, I have small, lightweight, ‘stedicams’. The back-monitors on these little cameras, particularly the DJI Osmo Pocket, (pictured below), are fantastic. I can zoom, pan and tilt the camera, and it’s on a giroscope, so no shakes, or it can be set-up to follow movement !

I’m currently using up to fifteen cameras, four gimbals, two drones, video and oil projectors, a large selection of lighting , green screen, switchable-livestream set-ups, as well as digital audio recording and mixing equipment. – Footage will be edited, to your requirements, using Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 26, and Blackmagic Digital Imaging software.

I specialise in multi-camera, live, performance videos, but I’ve also made documentaries, scripted films, adverts, animations and music promos. Please tell me what you are looking for. People seem to like working with me. I enjoy my work.

Use your imagination! Anything is possible! I’ve created many weird and wonderful videos for a huge range of clients. I like a challenge! My work with Mischief La-Bas, as a performance and video artist, involved puppetry, costume, set and prop construction, animation, pyrothechnics and CGI. As a musician and instrument maker, I have often demonstrated that the wildest ideas can be realised.

Ask me for Ideas…
